Type one word, get a card

Not every card needs to come from a batch. Type a single word and get the translation, examples and pronunciation auto-filled. Prefer full control? Enter everything manually. Need a lot of cards fast? Create a batch from any topic. Mix and match however you like.

Save words from web pages

Install the Chrome extension and add words from any website. Right-click a word, press Ctrl+Shift+V (Cmd+Shift+V on a Mac) or open the popup to make a card, with the sentence around the word saved as context. Turn on the optional bubble and it appears whenever you highlight text. The extension also imports your highlights from Kindle and Google Play Books.

The highlight bubble is off by default, and clicking it opens the popup pre-filled rather than adding the word in one click.

Import Kindle and Play Books highlights

Import your reading highlights from Kindle and Google Play Books. The browser extension imports a whole book in one click from your Kindle notebook or from Play Books. For Play Books you can also upload the exported file or paste a shared Google Docs link. Import just the text for instant cards, or choose enhanced mode for cards with translations, example sentences and pronunciation.

Swipe through flashcards

The answer that schedules a card is always a flashcard; quizzes and gap-fill appear on cards coming back in a session, on extra cards that are not due, and in practice rounds.

Fill the gap in a sentence

Gap-fill shows one of the card's own example sentences with the word missing, and you pick the word that belongs there. It tests the word in context rather than on its own. It appears on repeat and extra cards in a session and in practice rounds, and a wrong pick never counts against you.

Six levels of spaced repetition

Forget the forgetting curve. Vocards shows each card at growing intervals – a day, a few days, a week, a month – until they stick. And you never grade yourself: there's no Again, Hard, Good or Easy to second-guess. Vocards reads your struggle straight from how you swipe, so words you find hard come back sooner and words you know get spaced further apart. The result: more retention for less daily effort.

See what changed after each session

When a session ends, Vocards shows how it went: which cards were easy, which were tough and which slipped, with a tap on any group to see its words. Level ups list exactly which words moved up. If the deck has more cards, Keep practicing starts another session.

Cards include built-in audio pronunciation. Hear the word as you study, train your ear alongside your vocabulary. Adjust playback speed to match your comfort level.

Persian and Uzbek have no audio yet, and a few languages use a simpler standard voice.

New cards come with a transcription of how the word sounds, and the play button shows it. Read it in your own language's letters where that works, or in IPA – whichever you choose in How to say it.

For words and two-word phrases in English, Spanish, French, German, Italian and Portuguese. The IPA is written by AI and can be wrong, so you can correct it. Adding it to older cards uses AI credits.

Readings for Japanese and Chinese

In Japanese, Chinese and Cantonese the characters don't show how a word sounds, so the reading is part of what you learn. While the word is the question, its furigana, pinyin or Jyutping stays hidden; turn the card over and it appears above the characters.

Listen hands-free with Podcast Mode

Turn any deck into a listening session. Podcast mode speaks one side of a card, leaves a gap for you to recall the answer, then speaks the other side – hands-free, screen off, while you drive or walk. It's listening-only, so it never touches your review schedule. Available in the mobile app.

Rest days protect your streak

Missing a day doesn't have to end your streak. Studying earns rest days – the first after 2 days, the next after 3 more, the third after 4 more – and you can hold three at a time. Miss a day with one in hand and it's used automatically. Your streak calendar marks each day a rest day covered, so you can always see how your streak was kept.

Stats and a learning heatmap

See a year of activity on a heatmap you can filter by deck, next to your current streak, your longest streak and the days you've studied. Level history shows exactly which words moved up or down, and when.

Host a live vocabulary quiz

Turn a deck into a party game. Start a quiz, share the link, the QR code or the six-character room code, and everyone plays on their own phone. Each question has four choices, the answer is revealed once everyone has answered, and the host plays too.

Not sure about a word? Open a chat on the card and ask: is this correct, explain the grammar, when would I use this. When the answer suggests changing a field, you see the change as a diff and apply or dismiss it in one tap. Each question uses AI credits, and the chat reminds you that AI can make mistakes.
