Send a message to the person who makes Vocards
You write to Mariusz, who builds Vocards, in a thread inside the app. His reply shows up in the same thread. The separate Send Feedback form works differently, and a reply to it comes by email. It's covered further down.
What you need
- A Vocards account. Messages is part of the signed-in app.
- A connection. On iOS and Android you can't send while offline.
1. Open Messages
On web, click your initials in the toolbar, then Settings. The Message Mariusz card is at the top of the page. Click it.
The account menu also has a Messages entry. In a narrow window the initials are replaced by a menu icon. Once you have a deck, the same card also sits at the bottom of your home page.
On iOS and Android, open the Settings tab. Tap the Message Mariusz card at the top. A Messages row at the bottom of Settings opens the same thread.
2. Write and send
Type in the Write a message… box. A bug, an idea and a question all go in the same place. You have one thread, and everything you send lands in it.
Send it with the send button (Send message). On web, pressing Enter sends too. Shift+Enter starts a new line, and the box grows with your message.
If you leave Messages before you send, what you typed is still in the box when you come back. It's kept for your account on that browser or phone, and signing out clears it.
Under your messages the thread reads "We've got this. Mariusz usually replies within a day." The same reply window, Mariusz usually replies within a day, sits under the page title. That's the app's own estimate.
3. Read the reply
If the app is open when Mariusz replies, the reply appears in the thread straight away. Elsewhere in the app a Mariusz sent you a message notice pops up with an Open button. It waits until your learning session ends, so it never interrupts a review.
An unread reply is marked:
- On web, a number next to Messages in the account menu, and a dot on the Message Mariusz card.
- On iOS and Android, a dot on the Settings tab, the Message Mariusz card and the Messages row.
Opening the thread marks it as read on all your devices.
If a reply is still unread an hour after it was sent, you get an email to your account address with the subject "You have a reply from Vocards" and a link to Messages. The email doesn't contain the message itself, and it's in English. You get at most one of these emails a day. If you read the reply before the hour is up, no email goes out.
Note: Vocards doesn't send push notifications for messages. A reply reaches you in the app, or by that email.
Messages in your language
Mariusz's messages are translated into the language you use the app in. A translated message is marked Translated. Click Show original under it to see what he wrote, and Show translation to switch back. Each message switches on its own.
If a translation fails, the message arrives in the language it was written in.
When Mariusz writes first
Sometimes Mariusz starts the conversation with a short question. It shows on your home screen as a Mariusz has a question for you card, never during a session.
- Reply opens the thread.
- Not now hides the card. The question stays in the thread, still unread.
If you haven't opened the thread a day after the question arrived, you get an email with the subject "A question from Vocards". Opening the thread is enough to stop it, even if you don't answer.
Stop unprompted messages
Above the message box is Unprompted messages. On web, clear the checkbox. On iOS and Android, turn the switch off.
With it off, Mariusz can't start a conversation with you, in the app or by email. You can still write any time, and his replies to your messages still arrive in the thread.
The reply and question emails above, and any email Mariusz sends through Vocards to start a conversation, end with an unsubscribe link. It opens a page in your browser that asks you to confirm with Unsubscribe. That does the same as turning Unprompted messages off. If you clicked by mistake, Undo on that page works for a day. Your mail app may also show its own unsubscribe button for these emails, with the same effect. Sign-in and account emails keep arriving either way.
Note: Turning it off also stops the "You have a reply from Vocards" email. Replies still land in the thread, but nothing tells you outside the app. Open Messages yourself to check.
The Send Feedback form
There's also a separate form. On web it's the Send Feedback row near the bottom of Settings. On iOS and Android it's Send Feedback at the bottom of Settings.
- Pick a Category: General, Bug report or Feature request.
- Write at least 5 characters, up to 2,000.
- Click Send Message.
What you send through the form doesn't go into your Messages thread, and neither does any reply. If you get an answer, it comes by email to the address on your account. Use Messages when you want the conversation, and the reply, inside the app.
Note: Neither Messages nor this form earns credits. The form that can add 500 credits is a different one. It opens when you run out of AI credits, it adds credits at most once per calendar month, and a submission can be turned down.
Limits
- A message can be up to 2,000 characters. The box stops accepting text at that point.
- You can send 10 messages an hour. The feedback form allows 5 an hour.
- Your thread is kept for 12 months after its last message, then deleted.
If something goes wrong
| You see | Why | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| "That's a lot of messages just now – try again shortly." | You've sent 10 messages within the hour. | Wait a while, then send again. Your text stays in the box. |
| "You've sent too many messages. Please try again later." | The feedback form's limit of 5 an hour. | Wait, or write in Messages instead. |
| "Could not send that. Try again." | The send didn't go through. | Click Try again, or send again. Your text stays in the box. |
| "Could not load your messages. Try again." | The app couldn't reach Vocards. | Check your connection, then click Try again. |
| "You're offline. You can send messages again once you're back online." (iOS, Android) | The phone has no connection. | Send once you're back online. |
| No Message Mariusz card on the web home page | That card shows there only once you have a deck. | Use the card in Settings, or Messages in the account menu. |
| No email about an unread reply | You read it within the hour, you already got one that day, or Unprompted messages is off. | Open Messages in the app. |
